Dr. Murataly Duishonakunov is an Assistant Professor in the non-degree General Education Program at the American University of Central Asia. He holds a Ph.D. from the Institute of Geography of the Giessen University (2014, Germany), a postgraduate degree from the Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in Asia Pacific (2008, India), a master’s and bachelor’s degrees with honors from the Department of Physical Geography at the Kyrgyz National University (2001, 1999, Kyrgyzstan). 

Dr. Murataly Duishonakunov joined AUCA in August 2024. He was an exchange professor at Niigata University (2019, Japan), an acting dean of the Geography, Ecology, and Tourism department at the Kyrgyz National University (2017, Kyrgyzstan), and has held various senior leadership positions at the Kyrgyz National University since 2001. He was a project manager of the “Reconstruction of the Glacial Runoff of the Glacier of the Inner Tian Shan and its Forecast in the Changing Climate of the XXI Century” of the Scientific project of the Ministry of Education and Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic (2019-2020), a project manager of the “Land use, ecosystem services and human welfare in Central Asia” project (2010-2014), a local coordinator of the “Glacier and Glacier lake inventory of Tian Shan” (2007-2011) and a local member of the “Environment changes in Tian Shan” (2005-2007) projects of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. 

Dr. Murataly Duishonakunov is a Country Coordinator for the Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) Program, a national correspondent of the Global Terrestrial Network for Permafrost, a member of the Commission on Onomastics of the National Commission on the State Language and Language Policy under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, a member of the editorial board of terminology in Geography, a member of the Geographical Society of the Kyrgyz Republic, and a member of the National Game Society “Toguz Korgool”.
