General Education Week: Iain Webb

"I'm Iain Webb, Assistant Professor in the General Education Department. I completed my Masters in applied mathematics at the University of St Andrews, and at AUCA teach maths for humanitarian students, linear algebra, analytic geometry, probability, statistics, and calculus.

Maths is a language, a tool, just like English or Swahili. I believe that maths should help you in life – although if it happens to be fun and interesting, that’s enough too. Learning maths is like learning to play an instrument or to paint, giving us a different way of looking at life.

The General Education Department is a fantastic part of the university, where discussions on a wide reaching number of topics happen under one roof. That is also what makes AUCA a great place: the meeting of so many different minds and worlds creates a dynamic environment."
