- You are a student in the Software Engineering Department. Why did you choose AUCA, and why did you enroll as a SFW major?
Software Development is a field which is growing rapidly nowadays. I think, this is the main reason why people choose this department, and so did I. Another reason is that I always liked mathematics, but never actually wanted to major in it, so I chose this field.
-Tell us a little about your department. What new things did you learn there?
When I am asked what new things I was taught at Software Engineering Department, the first thing which comes to my mind is self-education. Every software or web developer knows that it is actually impossible to teach you everything, since this field is quite broad and changing every minute. I think this is more important than gaining some technical knowledge. Besides it, I gained knowledge of the fundamental concepts of programming from the very zero. I actually did not write any code before university. Now I see perfect results and I am really thankful.
-Which sphere of software engineering would you like to specialize in? Why?
I like Java programming language and use it actually. I have always wanted to be a backend developer of a big system. So, my future could be related to the server side of mobile apps, or other web based applications.I prefer it, because I like data structures, logics and architecture of how this workflow should be designed in an optimized way.
-Your GPA is quite good. Is it hard to keep it up? How do you handle will all your studies?
I think the key point is just to complete all the assignments that teachers give us.
-Tell us about your favorite class in the department. What is interesting about it?
Most of all I liked Object Oriented Programming because it is leading nowadays, and it is actually about design and style of your code. Another is data structures which represents patterns of how data is stored.
-As a senior student, you have to make your thesis project. Did you start working on your project? What is it about?
It is quite difficult to find a good idea or topic for the thesis project. That is why I still don't know what exactly I want to do, but I want to create an application for Android users that would bring some useful services. For example, just a simple application for lawyers to prepare to exams brought to the author millions of dollars that is why I want to find a good idea at first.
In any thesis project of a software engineer there is actually a commercial product in potentiality.
-Do you work in any company besides your studies?
My current job is Java developer at LocalOn.
-What good advice would you give to students who want to study in the SFW Department?
This sphere is intellectual, so, if you think you can handle it, go for it. Advice is always to grow. If you feel lack of knowledge, catch up by yourself. Teachers are only vectors that give you directions; the rest is your job.
