November 21, 2024
On November 16, 2024, students from the American University of Nigeria (AUN) and the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) met via Zoom to discuss Traditional and AI Teaching and Learning Modes. This event marked the 11th Virtual Inter-University Discussion, held as part of the Civic Engagement Project Crossing Borders Through Social Media and Dialogue, initiated in 2019 by Professor Ekaterina Galimova (AUCA) and Professor Emilienne Akpan (AUN).
The primary goal of this international online event was to enhance students' leadership, critical thinking, and communication skills. Approximately 20 participants attended. As a fully student-centered event, the discussion was organized and hosted by two representatives from each university: Angel Oche and Wisdom Phillip from AUN and Nuriya Odinaeva and Nurofarid Kukanbekova from AUCA.
The event began with a General Discussion, followed by five Breakout Room Discussions that explored topics such as gender fluidity, financial aid provided to developing countries by international organizations, the role of AI in assessing university coursework, and the consequences of suppressing individual and fundamental freedoms in society.
As a follow-up, participants were encouraged to incorporate the insights gained into their English Composition essays.
Students provided feedback through a Google Forms survey to further improve future discussions.
Professor Ekaterina Galimova extended special thanks to the most active participants: Nozanin Abdulloeva, Safarkhotun Mamadbekova, Nurzhan Abazbekov, Adolat Noyobshoeva, Veronika Pliamkina, Ahmad Seyar Alizada, Malika Arli, Samir Sabirov, and Abdumalik Shamiev, for their enthusiasm, politeness, and engagement in asking and answering questions.
In turn, students expressed their gratitude to the professors for facilitating the event and for the opportunity to connect with peers from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds. Many participants also shared their excitement about joining future discussions.
If you missed this session, you are welcome to participate in the next one, scheduled for the spring semester 2025!
