On Thursday, October 17th, the Department of Anthropology and International Development hosted a lecture by Tynymgul Eshieva, assistant professor at the JMC Department and a communications consultant. The event, titled *“Strategic Communications and Its Role in Driving Social Change,”* explored how effective communication strategies foster societal transformation, especially in international development and humanitarian efforts.
Eshieva emphasized the importance of clear, culturally sensitive messaging in building public trust, mobilizing communities, and driving behavior change. She shared examples of how nonprofits and governments use strategic communications to address issues like public health and human rights while highlighting the impact of social media in amplifying marginalized voices.
The session also addressed challenges such as misinformation and the need for media literacy in today’s digital landscape. During the interactive Q&A, participants discussed post-conflict recovery and aligning communications with sustainable development goals (SDGs).
