On June 17-18, 2024, the Department of Environmental Sustainability and Climate Science (ESCS) organized a practical ecological trip for the students of the ESCS department to Son-Kul Lake and Salt Mine in the Naryn region. The purpose of the ecological practical trip was to familiarize myself with the relevant environmental issues, such as the degradation of pastures and the loss of biodiversity of the Son-Kul Lake, which is associated with intensive animal grazing and overfishing etc. Another trip goal was to help students identify and select topics for future research. In addition, during the ecological practical trip, the students could visually see the ecosystems of natural territories protected by the government and the migration corridors of wild birds such as ducks, cranes, etc. Hence, the students learned about current state environmental programs, policies, and measures to protect the ecosystem of Son-Kul Lake from state ecologists who work on Son-Kul Lake.

The next study area was the Chon-Tuz salt mine in the Kochkor district of the Naryn region. Chon-Tuz is a therapeutic salt mine that has been functioning since 1980. The students got acquainted with the salt mine's functioning and environmental problems, such as the destruction of landscapes, air and water pollution, etc.
