In a review of the academic governance structure, the AUCA President, Dr. Timothy E. O'Connor, has initiated the creation of the new position of Dean of Academic Planning and Strategic Partnerships, which the AUCA Board of Trustees directly approved. The AUCA community congratulates Dr. Saniia Toktogazieva on her new endeavour as a new Dean of Academic Planning and Strategic Partnerships at the American University of Central Asia!
Dr. Toktogazieva joined the AUCA faculty in 2012 and currently holds the position of Associate Professor and serves as the Coordinator of the Human Rights concentration within the Liberal Arts and Sciences department, where she has been teaching full-time since 2012. She earned her SJD - Doctor of Juridical Science - degree in Comparative Constitutional Law from the Central European University (CEU) in 2019. She has been a fellow of the Academic Fellowship Program sponsored by the Open Society Foundation and the recipient of the research grant "Beyond the Ivory Tower" supported by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Since joining AUCA after graduating from the International and Business Law department at AUCA (Magna Cum Laude), Dr. Toktogazieva has also held numerous leadership roles. She served as the deputy chair of the Academic Senate of AUCA (2019-2021) and chair of the Academic Senate (2021-2023). She demonstrated a collaborative leadership style and a focused commitment to academic excellence, research, diversity, and inclusion.
The Dean reports to the President of the American University of Central Asia. He/She is responsible for assisting the President in the University's academic planning and strategic partnerships, coordinating the University's relationship with the Open Society University Network, reviewing and proposing revisions to the University's educational policies and procedures (including but not limited to those relating to faculty conduct and evaluation) and (in collaboration with the Vice President for Academic Affairs), reviewing and recommending revisions to the faculty's organizational structure. The Dean may also perform such other academic tasks and functions as may be assigned by the University's President.
