The head and founder of the picVpic startup, Edil Azhibaev, spoke about the contribution of the Kyrgyz team to the development of the most advanced technologies and their recognition in the world.
He shared that at one time, his team developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-based search engine for clothes and shoes, which was ahead of any services in the world, including Google, regarding search quality.
“We identified the 10,000 most used phrases to describe clothes, used a hybrid machine learning and semi-automatic labeling system, and linked the phrases semantically into a Knowledge Graph neural tree. This made it possible to find products better than anyone. By the way, the Chat GPT neural network also used hybrid technology,” Azhibaev said.
This technology was appreciated worldwide, and the startup won six international competitions in San Francisco, New York, London, Singapore, Kyiv, and Almaty. The U.S. Department of Commerce has listed picVpic as one of Eurasia’s ten most innovative projects.
In addition, there were offers of cooperation and integration with eBay and Amazon as well as purchase negotiations with the then-largest artificial intelligence company Sentient AI and other companies and significant funds from the US and Europe. However, Google then entered the product search market very aggressively with the Google Shopping service, which greatly influenced the deals of the Kyrgyz team. Nevertheless, they were able to exit (an agreement to leave the project), and now other companies are using their technologies.
“The British government and the Queen, as well as several publications, have recognized that we have significantly contributed to developing the most advanced technologies. I suppose that this was one of the main reasons I started to get into the tops of English entrepreneurs, whose work was appreciated,” Azhibaev shared.
Edil Azhibaev is a 2002 AUCA graduate of the Department of Economics and the founder of several international innovative startups, including picVpic.com and Human Enhancements. He is also a consultant for several other startups. Edil has won six international startup competitions in San Francisco, London, Kyiv, Almaty, Singapore, and New York. In 2012, Edil founded picVpic.com, an online product comparison app.
