The team of the “Green AUCA” project has already handed over waste paper for recycling twice (the 1st time in March - 327 kg, we wrote earlier about this). On April 1, waste paper was handed over for recycling by 2 more AUCA departments - the Tian Shan Analytical Center (TAC) and the Shared Service Center, the total weight of which was 260 kg.
In total, in 3 weeks AUCA handed over more than half a ton of waste paper – 587 kg!
At the same time, the university's income from paper “garbage”, which previously simply went to the landfill, totaled 8800 soms. We put the word “garbage” in quotation marks, since everything that can be recycled or disposed of is no longer garbage, but waste. And you can also make money on waste ;)
Now imagine how much additional funds AUCA can get into its money box for a year, regularly handing over unnecessary paper and some other types of its waste for recycling.
With the proceeds, we will purchase stationery and office paper in the near future at the request of offices and departments that took part in our “green” initiative.
It should be noted that waste paper can be handed over in exchange not only for stationery or new office paper, but also for household goods or cash, which can then be directed to important needs for AUCA.
At the moment, we identify and recycle the waste already available on campus. At the same time, the Green AUCA project sets one of its tasks to reduce the amount of waste on campus – and first of all paper.
Suggested solutions from PPD: convert documentation to electronic format where possible - for example, send applications by e-mail and do not print out the extra, only when necessary.
