AUCA student has visited one of the most prestigious film festivals worldwide
February 20, 2020
Anastasia Lysogorova, a 4th-year student from the Department of Television, Cinema and Media Arts, attended the annual Rotterdam Film Festival, which was held from January 24 - February 2, 2020, in Rotterdam.
The International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) is one of the high-level (A category) festivals in Europe, along with festivals in Cannes, Berlin, and Locarno.
“The main goal of the festival is to support the talented authors of non-profit films with an emphasis on films from East Asia and developing countries. The festival program is quite diverse - there is everything from a separate program of short films to documentaries and fairly well-known films, for example, Robert Eggers’ Lighthouse and Little Women by Greta Herwig, who fought for the best film on the Oscars.
The most interesting thing is that the festival's locations are the famous cultural institutions of Rotterdam, including the multiplex Pathé Schouwburgplein, the Lantaren Venster cinema, the concert halls De Doelen and Rotterdamse Schouwburg, the historical cinema Cinerama and Old Luxor. While staying in Rotterdam, you want to visit cultural places, and in this regard, the festival is very well organized.
I was invited as a press to the festival, as I applied for training for young film critics. I didn’t go to the training, but the organizers were quite impressed with my application and the desire to go, that they offered press accreditation at the expense of the festival. In less than a month, I am already here, getting ready for a rich competition program, training, and masterclasses from cinema professionals from around the world,” Anastasia shares.
The American University of Central Asia provided great support and fully sponsored the trip of Anastasia. We are very proud of our students and their achievements! We wish Anastasia success in future endeavors!
