Naumova Mariia, a 4th-year student in the department of TV, Cinema, and Media Arts won 2nd place in the People’s Choice Award contest for her movie Kyrgyz Taigan.
Black screen. End credits. While the cinema audience applauds, a note on a piece of paper travels from row to row until it reaches its destination. Similar to the scene at the airport from Home Alone 2, people pass each other note until it reaches a film director. The note says that Mariia's film is the best. This is one of the many stories Mariia brought back from the Eurasia Doc festival.
Eurasia Doc is an annual documentary film festival that takes place in Smolensk, Russia, and Minsk, Belarus in early October. It screens a wide range of short and full-length movies concentrated in the area of contemporary socio-political issues. Naumova competed with other young talents from CIS countries in making four-minute documentaries. Her movie Kyrgyz Taigan touches upon the relationship between humans and dogs in the local context. “I know a lot about them because I am involved in animal farm activities,” says Mariia. She would like to explore this topic more and produce a longer version of the film.
The AUCA community and the TCMA department specifically congratulates Mariia for her impressive achievements and wish her further success in her professional field.
