On Tuesday, October 8, 2019, the students from Environmental Management and Sustainable Development and Agro-ecology Integrated Crop Management courses visited the Lyceum, where specialists in organic agriculture, machine operators and textile handicraft workers trained. Currently, JICA is making efforts to organic farming development in Kyrgyzstan. The purpose of the visit was to observe greenhouse, biogas technology, composting and storage for products.
First, the students have seen two greenhouses that grow flowers, tomatoes, and cucumbers, according to the principles of organic farming. In the second part of the tour, the students got acquainted with composting methods and biogas technology, which heats greenhouses and produces liquid fertilizers. Finally, we have seen the infrastructure of the Lyceum for agricultural machines, textile staff, food storage, and creative craft works of Lyceum students.

A group of AUCA students, who take the course of Environmental Management and Sustainable Development, joined the excursion to the organic agriculture at the Lyceum. The weather was not favorable for the trip, but the good company, responsive guides, friendly guys from the Lyceum and interesting excursion program made everyone happy. A visit to this wonderful place was really exciting and informative. First of all, we saw the greenhouses where vegetables, fruits, and flowers were grown. Most of the products grown in greenhouses use for students’ nutrition and canned for the winter. I liked the education system at the lyceum, students are engaged in ecological farming together with professors, which is a good example of how to manage a farm without harming the environment. Guides also showed us the production of biogas in great detail, it turned out to be quite a laborious work, but protecting our ecosystem worths it. Finally, the smiles of the lyceum's students, as well as their needlework were the most memorable during the excursion, cause all the paintings, exhibits and decor in the lyceum were made by them.

On October 8, students from Intro to Environmental Management and Sustainable Development class had a field trip to Organic Farm at the lyceum that is located in the Chuy region of Kyrgyzstan. This trip was very useful for the students because they got a chance to see how the theory works in real life. From our trip to organic farms, we got more knowledge and experience about biogas, organic vegetables, and greenhouses to grow different plants. I learned that organic farming is one of the best ways to keep the planet clean. Using organic farming the quality of soil does not decrease conversely it improves soil fertility and reduce weeds, uses less non-renewable energy source for farming, and many other benefits for our environment. This farm was also functioned as an educational institute, where students work on the farm. One part of the lyceum was devoted to handicraft goods, where mostly the middle-aged women work. Overall. I found this trip very productive because I have learned that it takes time, investment, and human resources to build such a farm in Kyrgyzstan or other countries.
