About seminar:
There is a growing gap between, on one hand, the speed at which information (including fake news) is spreading and the ability of all citizens to express themselves (e.g. through online petitions) and, on the other hand, the mechanisms of our « traditional » democracies. The deployment of civic techs aims at filling that gap and gives birth to a - maybe dangerous - idea of direct democracy made possible by digital technologies. Smart cities today, smart states tomorrow, the question is who will rule the society in a decade or two? Will people still elect some representatives every 4, 5 or 6 years? Will Google - or another company - provide enhanced e-democracy, maybe backed by artificial intelligence? One thing is sure, modern technologies are challenging our democracies and will lead to significant changes in the coming years.
