On Thursday, 25 April 2019, the department of EMSD has organized a trip for AUCA students to Kant Cement Plant, Kegety and Yssyk-Ata gorges under the financial support of the Foundation the Promote Open Society. The main purpose of a visit was to get acquainted with the technology of cement production and environmental safety. In addition, students had a chance to study ecosystems and identify the real scope of environmental problems on the place.
The fact that air pollution is hazardous to human health is well known. Kant cement industry is one of the most important industries involved in air pollution in Chui region. Cement is currently the most widely used material throughout the country. Its production is being recognized to be playing a hazardous role in the imbalances of the environment and producing air pollutants. As a result, the whole ecosystem around the cement factory is subjected to extraordinary stress and abuse. Consequently, the above-mentioned problems indicate the importance of technological progress.
The traditional operation of the two gorges has mainly focused on water supply and recreation, and given less attention to the negative impacts of tourist operation on the river and soil ecosystems. These ecosystems offer environmental security to humans by providing goods and services, such as food, medicines and timber products, and flood protection and water quality improvement.
Below, inspired students sharing impressions:
Dzhakshylykova Mira, EMSD-117. Excursions to Kant cement factory, Kegety waterfall, and Yssyk-Ata resort were great and memorable for me. During the excursion, we saw the scale of the plant and all the machines that were working in Kant cement factory. Along with it, we had a conversation with ecologist of this factory, who gave us important information about acquaintance with the technology of cement production and environmental safety. Our next stop was a Kegety gorge, which impressed us with its beauty and fresh air, after factory. As my friend said I love rain, and having a trip to beautiful places under the rain is quite epic. So many impressions and emotions in one day were cool to experience. Wish more such exciting excursions”, other students were excited as well. It was very interesting and helpful trip with lots of excitements.
During our trip, we had a professional guide, who told to us different interesting facts about Kegety and Yssyk-Ata gorges. Our last stop was Yssyk-Ata resort, where we drank the mineral water and learned new information about this place. As I learned, from Kegety gorge and Yssyk-Ata trip, there are bio-diverse ecosystems with living and non-living components. Also, we identified existing environmental problems on the place, such as waste, water, and soil pollution. The waste pollution results were very disappointing.
Gulbekov Olimbek, GEO-118. Last week I had a trip to Kegety and Yssyk-Ata gorges together with Applied Geology and EMSD students. For me as a student from abroad to visit such a beautiful place was a pleasure. I was satisfied with the unforgettable view of the waterfall in Kegety gorge and the medical water of Yssyk-Ata. During this trip, I learned more about ecosystems and landscapes. Also, I was impressed by Kant Cement Factory and the way how they produce it. I have never seen such a big factory. I think this factory can take part in developing economic growth in Kyrgyzstan.
Bekbolotova Aigerim, EMSD-118. On 25 of April, students of ecology and geology departments under the supervision of university professors went to the excursion and visited Ysyk-Ata and Kegety gorges as well as Kant Cement Plant. The first point of our journey was the cement factory where all students learned a lot of interesting information about the process of making cement and got acquainted with the environmental policy, which is being followed in the production of this mineral element. After that, we went to Ysyk-Ata gorge where students learned about the ecosystem of the region and admired beautiful landscapes. Our team also stopped by the health resort Ysyk-Ata, where we saw local attractions and tried out the medical properties of sulfurous water. Our final destination was gorge Kegety, there we inspected the land on the presence of different pollutants and learned about its biosphere. In the end, this trip left a lasting impression on all students because not only we gained practical experience, but also made friends with all students of previously mentioned departments, shared our ideas and plans.
