C5+1 Youth Council (YC) met with the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs

March 11, 2019

On February 25, AUCA students from the C5+1 Youth Council (YC) and students from the journalism department engaged in a discussion with Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Alice Wells and U.S. Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic Donald Lu.

The C5+1 YC event brought together students from Central Asian countries and Afghanistan to discuss US foreign policy, regional connectivity, security, importance of students’ post-university contribution in the region, and USG commitment to regional connectivity through AUCA and C5+1. Students from Central Asian countries and Afghanistan asked questions about U.S. strategic interests in Central Asia and for the C5+1 platform, USG commitments to women’s rights in Afghanistan and the USG position on peace talks and the Taliban. The AUCA students noted that possessing good English language skills not only allows them to communicate on regional issues, but also enables them to astutely follow news from Central Asia, the United States, and beyond from different media outlets.

The C5+1 Youth Council gathers students from Central Asia and Afghanistan to represent their views and discuss issues on security, peace, regional connectivity, human rights, and environment -- and establishes a sustainable communication network among youth representatives from Central Asian countries and Afghanistan.
