A very young and talented tutor of New Generation Academy and Bilimkana High school, Emma Claire Jones talks about her free time and shares impressions about AUCA:
“When I was in university, I studied the history of Central Asia. I wanted to come and live in a country in Central Asia to improve my Russian language. I chose Kyrgyzstan because there is a fellowship connected to my university that helped me to get a job here. I am lucky that I was connected with AUCA which is a nice place”.
What was your first impression when you came to AUCA?
“It is a nice campus. It is bigger than I expected which is great. When I first came, there was an orientation week, students everywhere were wearing matching t-shirts. It was very energetic which was my first impression, and it was nice”.
What do you think about your students?
“I love my students. I teach one class in NGA. Some of my students are just regular NGA and other coming after high school or after working, so they are very motivated. Students are coming from all over Kyrgyzstan. I have some Tajiks students as well. They are all from different backgrounds and working very hard. It has been two months now, so I can actually see some progress which is really nice”.
What kind of projects would you like to arrange at AUCA?
“I am trying to engage students to be interested in some different new topics. Actually, NGA encourages us to start clubs. I am trying to see which one will be more helpful for them. I would be happy to help with anything related to study abroad opportunities or applying to US schools. Also, due to the high interest in history, I would love to open a history club. There must be some student who would be involved in it. I will see what they think about it”.
What do you think about Bishkek?
“I live outside of the center. It is very green and quiet place. I’ve been very happy in Bishkek.
What are your favorite places in Bishkek?
“I like the fourth micro-district. I love the Fine Art Museum which is in downtown. I have been there twice in two months because they keep adding new exhibits, and I love the whole area around there, like the library and the opera. It is such a nice area”.
What about Kyrgyz national food?
“I know some of them because, besides Kyrgyzstan, I've been in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan as well. So I had Plov before I have never tried Beshbarmak or another really Kyrgyz dishes. I enjoyed Kyrgyz food”.
What do you usually do during your free time?
“As most of the visitors who come here at the first time try hiking. Before coming to Kyrgyzstan, I did not hike very often, but it was one of my hobbies. It’s been nice to start it here because of the beautiful mountains”.
“I like to cook. I live near to Ortosay Bazar. Usually, I go on the weekends there and do shopping to cook something new. I should try to cook some Kyrgyz food as well. I’ve been exploring the city too”.
What do you want to wish to AUCA community within the 25th AUCA Anniversary?
“I wish them to continue to do what they have been doing. I can see that all the students here are motivated, so just keep working and strive for more things. I think that everything I’ve been seen at AUCA is great. Just push yourself to do more. Be the best you can be and do the most you can do”.
