On November 20, 2018, the American University of Central Asia hosted the awarding ceremony of the 2018 Mary Schweitzer Scholarship for Excellence. This year there was only one winner, the second-year student of Anthropology Program Dariia Akhunbaeva. The awarding ceremony took place in the skybox on the fourth floor of the main building at the American University of Central Asia with the chair of Anthropology Program Cholpon Chotaeva handing the winner certificate to Dariia.
At the beginning of the ceremony, the chair of the program informed all students and faculty members to present at the ceremony dedicated to the Mary Schweitzer Scholarship. Mary Schweitzer Scholarship was established in 2010 by Anthropology Program graduates of 2005 in honor of Professor Mary Schweitzer who was teaching at Anthropology Program from 2002 to 2005. The aim of the scholarship was to assist students with financial needs studying at the program. Every fall students of the program with financial needs apply for the scholarship to receive a financial aid up to 1000 US$ to be paid as part of their tuition fees.
The rest of the ceremony was more informal. Students and faculty exchanged their news and enjoyed snacks and drinks offered by the program.
