The event, dedicated to International Women Day, took part on March, 7 at AUCA. It was arranged by Gulnara Ibraeva, Anara Niyazova, and Anara Moldosheva. The goal of the event was to create a deep sense of Woman’s Liberty and their fights for equality.
The turbulent and dynamic post-Soviet development has forced society, and especially women, to rethink the meaning of International Women's Day. Women continue to be responsible for their families, faced with the impossibility of implementing the tasks assigned to them by society - to be a mother, wife, lover, citizen. Women represent the majority of the unemployed and the poor, and are too commonly engaged in unprotected, illegal sectors of the economy. Families are increasingly being destroyed because of economic distress and long-term migration. New times have brought new roles for women: the growth of market values in society has been accompanied by the commercialization of the image of women; they become objects of desire and commerce, they are expected to have sexual attractiveness and be willing to provide sexual services.
Beauty and sexuality are constructed through the media and public opinion for the formation of "obedient" slave women, and the belittling of women's contribution of labor leads to undermining its independence.
The event was dedicated to the millions of women in Kyrgyzstan. Everyone who works for the benefit of their families and homeland. Those who struggle with poverty, injustice; those who break the set standards of beauty and sexuality and ready to formulate their own meanings of life.
At the event the visitors could see the photo exhibition and slide show, dedicated to the main theme. Also the participants sang songs about liberty, and arranged “Beauty conquers stereotypes” displays.
