On September 15th, 2016, Dan Hamilton, a public affairs associate from the American College of Surgeons visited the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) to lead an interactive conversation with students from the department of Journalism and Mass Communication. Hamilton guided the conversation around public relations, journalism, new technologies and social media.
During the meeting Hamilton advised the students on how to prepare for interviews by doing research on the person you're interviewing. The PR-specialist noted the advantages and disadvantages of new technology and social media. Hamilton thinks these instruments help, but social media lacks the capacity to show the full range of emotions people want to express during an online interview. Moreover, he emphasized that he always learns something new at his work, a criterion Hamilton had when he was looking for a job. Now, Hamilton is planning to assist AUCA by advising AUCA journalism students in their senior thesis.
“I came to just visit a country and my friend, a member of AUCA faculty, and then they invited me to do a lecture. I am so excited; I had not been to Central Asia before. I am very impressed with the campus. Two days ago I was sitting here and everybody seemed excited to be here. So me thing I had missed about the university setting was the excitement people have to learn - to talk about ideas. I wish to keep going forward!” said Dan Hamilton.
