March 29, 2016
March 25, 2016, a team of AUCA students calling themselves “Eagles” took first place at a national tourism marketing competition. Participants came from six universities across the Kyrgyz Republic. The competition took place at the Kyrgyz Economics University (KEU). This was the second year in a row an AUCA has won first place.
For the competition, each team had to design and submit a plan for a travel company or a tourism product. For example, five of the competitors took existing companies or products as a basis.
But the AUCA juniors of the Business Administration Department took an unorthodox path to success. They submitted a fully prepared business plan to the jury, offering an absolutely new service to Kyrgyzstan’s tourism industry: capsule-hotels made of glass built on the mountains. The students even created a social media presence for SkyLand Kyrgyzstan, their fictional hotel chain.
The jury, comprised of owners and high-level employees, was impressed by the AUCA students’ performance, so much so, that jury member Talant Toktaliev, a founder of a travel company, offered to invest in the team’s project. At the moment, negotiations are underway.
According to the students, their success was made possible by the help and support of their faculty advisor, Lidia Kashitsina, an acting associate professor of the AUCA Business Administration Department, and their no-nonsense approach.
The Eagles especially thanked Joldosh Tulebaldiev, who suggested the idea of glass hotels on mountains of Kyrgyzstan, but was unable to join the team.
Our winners are Nurali Abdukhalilov, Askar Tynaliev, Kuttubek Rakhmanberdiev, Akmaral Sharshenbekova, Nursultan Edilbekov, Zarnigar Abdullaeva, and Azim Tilekov. Congratulations!
