RESULTS OF CONTEST OF RESEARCH WORKS OF STUDENTS
PROVIDING PROTECTION AND ASSISTANCE TO REFUGEES AND STATELESS PERSONS AND SOLVING THEIR PROBLEMS:
THE INTERNATIONAL REALITY AND KYRGYZ PERSPECTIVE
18 December 2015 American University of Central Asia (AUCA), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and ADILET Legal Clinic are pleased to announce the results of the student writing contest on the legal issues surrounding refugees and stateless persons. The contest was conducted between October and December of 2015.
The contest objective was to encourage scientific research of students on the problems of refugees, internally displaced persons, stateless persons, international organizations’ activities and international legal documents on the protection of this category of persons.
The contest goals were to attract attention of young researchers to the problems of refugees, internally displaced persons and stateless persons; to disseminate the information on the governmental bodies’, non-governmental and international organizations’ activities to solve their problems; to contribute to the formation of a tolerant attitude towards refugees, internally displaced persons and stateless persons.
After being submitted, all written works were checked for compliance with all applicable academic writing standards, and then forwarded to a grading committee. The results of the grading committee are listed below:
First Place Award: Rizwana Habibullah – “Syrian Refugee Crisis” - $ 200
Second Place Award: Zulaika Arapbaeva – “The European Perspective on Immigration and Refugees” - $ 150
Grading Committee Members: Bermet Akimkan (Assistant Professor at AUCA); Nicholas Mazik (Associate Professor at AUCA); Ivan Saleyeu (Protection Officer at the UNHCR); Timur Sultanov (Senior Attorney at ADILET), and; Saniya Tokotagazieva (Assistant Professor at AUCA).
