November 25, 2015
On November 26, 2015, AUCA will be celebrating Thanksgiving Day.
Although AUCA officially celebrates Thanksgiving concurrently with the US (on the fourth Thursday of November), the holiday is not specific to the US and is celebrated at different times in different places. You may have noticed your Canadian friends celebrate Thanksgiving on October 12th, Liberian friends on November 5th, and Norfolk Islander friends today, on November 25th.
The diversity in dates underscores the ease with which the principles of Thanksgiving move between cultures. On Thanksgiving, people typically set aside time to reflect on their lives and appreciate what they have—an act unfamiliar to few people.
Members of the AUCA community are invited to pen their own personal “thankyous” (be it to their parents, professors, friends, pets, etc.) and place them on the “Thanksgiving Boards” now up in the main forum.
At the end of the day, all students, faculty and staff are welcome to feasts hosted by their own departments and catered by the university.
