October 30, 2015, the administration of the AUCA International Dormitory, the Young Life club members, and volunteers put on “Halloween in the Dorm”.
Dorm residents were divided into teams and competed for the titles like “scariest character,” “best team introduction,” “best carved pumpkin,” “best performance,” “ best scary story,” “apple bobbing champion”, and more. It was the first celebration of Halloween organized through the mutual cooperation of dormitory administration and residential advisers. AUCA staff and New Generation Academy faculty participated in the event as guests and jury members of the Halloween competition.
For the majority of the residents, “Halloween in the Dorm” was their first Halloween celebration. At the core of the competition was team work, creativity and organizational skills, so the event can be considered a tool of team-building and collaboration beyond its capacity as entertainment.
“Despite the fact that it was my second time celebrating Halloween, ‘Halloween in the Dorm’ was far more awesome. Everyone at the Halloween party had unique costumes and makeup on. I was super happy to participate the event. It will remain an unforgettable and joyous moment of my life.”
Munib Sahebzada, international NGA student residing in the Dormitory
“Never before have I celebrated Halloween Party with such fun and fear”
Alimbek Niimatilaev, NGA student residing in the Dormitory
“Celebrating Halloween in AUCA’s dorm was one of the most joyous and thrilling experiences I have ever had. As an Afghan student, being part of such a vibrant and glamorous celebration was immensely enjoyable.”
Farhadullah Shayan, international NGA student residing in the Dormitory
“As extracurricular activities and social life are crucial for effective individual development and extremely helpful for intercultural communication, we are trying to develop students life in the dorm as much we can. We have six student clubs organized by and for students, mentorship and Green campus activists, long-term events and activities plans. We are planning to celebrate the most famous holidays and would love to involve the students as much as possible this year. I truly believe that through our cooperation and motivation to develop we can make our dormitory not only a place for students to live and study but a place they won’t want to leave by the end of the year”
Ekaterina Sanamiants, Dormitory Coordinator
