On November 17th, 2014, George Soros, famous financier and investor, visited the American University of Central Asia.
George Soros began his day with a breakfast at the hotel with AUCA President Andrew Wachtel and a representative of the Aga-Khan Foundation. During the informal meeting, cooperation between the University of Central Asia and the American University of Central Asia was discussed.
After, Mr. Soros personally visited AUCA and was welcomed by university staff and was able to meet with students of different departments and years of education. The meeting was held in the main hall of the American University of Central Asia.
Talk was open-hearted, free and easy. Students asked different questions and discussed the role of education in the life of modern humanity, charity, and the idea of “success”. Mr. Soros in turn asked questions to students about their life goals and career plans, and then gave them advice.
“One of the defining factors of success is critical thinking. Education does not end in university, it should be continued during all of your life. Before you will have opportunities to help others on a global scale, you have to be successful by yourself first. Success is the combination of hard work and luck,” – said Mr. Soros.
The American University of Central Asia’s student body, faculty, and alumni actively cooperate with the Soros Foundation in Kyrgyzstan. After their meeting, students thanked George Soros for his visit and his productive cooperation with Kyrgyzstan.
During his one-day visit, Mr. Soros has plans to have lunch with students of the American University of Central Asia, to visit its new campus, as well as meeting with the President and the Prime-Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, Mr. Almazbek Atambaev and Joomart Otorbaev.
