On Thursday, October 2nd, the American University of Central Asia was honored to visit the Belovodskiy Orphanage (Беловодский детский дом). We were able to meet the children and staff, and deliver a donation of clothes, foods, English language games and tools, toys, and candy. The donated goods were a result of a drive by Unity Fund and the Public Relations & Communications Office. A huge thank you from the organizers of the drive, and especially from the orphanage staff and children goes out to all of the students and staff of AUCA, as well as those in its community, who were able to donate for this cause to help the most vulnerable in our society.
The Belovodskiy Orphanage cares for 254 children, from ages 4 to 18, with 90 of that number being recumbent and 45 suffering from disabilities. The orphanage is supported by the Caring Hands foundation, as well as Crosslink Development International (CDI), a community development and aid organization working in Kyrgyzstan. CDI is able to visit the orphanage twice a week, in order to teach English through speaking and book learning, and to perform therapeutic massages for the children.
Two local universities are also able to send volunteer groups to the orphanage in order to assist the staff and children. Students from our own AUCA as well as the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy donate their time for this worthy cause. However even with this help and the 180 employees at the orphanage, the children still need help.
The orphanage needs help in any way that you can provide. But especially they need size 5 diapers, bed linens, and all types of medicine but especially sedatives (успокоительное).
Please contact the PR office at pr@auca.kg if you want to donate to help the orphanage, or if you have any questions.
