February 21, 2014 – Sixteen participants took part in a recitation contest held by the Kyrgyz Language Program. Contestants recited poetry in Kyrgyz, Russian, Uzbek and even Indonesian. A jury made up of AUCA faculty members Syrgak Kydyraliev, Uulkan Kambaralieva and young Kyrgyz poet Altynbek Ismailov awarded first place to Joan Benedicta, an AUCA student from Indonesia, second place to Akylai Tazabekova, third place to Asel Biyalieva. Bahrom Tursunov and Keldibek Abdimitalib u. (who recited his own poetry) received special mentions.
Faculty members also gave recitations. N. A. Mamasheva recited in French, G. Bravo in Spanish and Z. Samudinova in Kyrgyz. B. Kambarova recited self-written, Russian poetry dedicated to AUCA. Judges didn’t shy away from the spotlight either, as Ms. Kambaralieva and Mr. Kydyraliev recited some of their favorite poems. Young Mr. Ismailov recited poems of his own dedicated to the Kyrgyz motherland and mother tongue. At the end of the event, Mr. Kydyraliev awarded prizes to the most creative reciters.
