Dr. Hersh Chadha, An AUCA friend and long-term supporter becomes an Honorary Professor
On October 24, 2016 Dr. Hersh Chadha OPM (Harvard), ARPS, photographer, writer, philanthropist and AUCA friend and long-term supporter visited the American University of Central Asia. Dr. Chadha gave a lecture entitled “Environmental Issues,” met with students and Kyrgyz filmmakers, and received an Honorary Professorship from AUCA.

Thomas A. Shannon, Jr., the Under Secretary of United States for Political Affairs visited the AUCA
On October 27, 2016 Thomas A. Shannon, Jr., the Under Secretary of United States for Political Affairs visited the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) to meet with AUCA students, faculty, and staff, along with a number of students from other Bishkek Universities. This trip was Under Secretary Shannon’s first visit to Central Asia, thus except Bishkek, he visited Astana, Kazakhstan, Tashkent and Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

On 20 October 2016, the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) hosted a lecture by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the signing of the 1951 Refugee convention by the Kyrgyz Republic and to celebrate U.N. Day.

International legal experts share their experiences with AUCA students
On October 12, 2016, students from the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) met with Theofili Chatzispyrou, a lawyer from Thessaloniki, Melina Lavzentiadou, a lawyer from Athens, and Dr. Thomas Nappert. The guests had a conversation with students about juridical systems in Greece and the Kyrgyz Republic, sharing their experience, stories, and relevant cases.

Rafael Vargas-Suarez and Dilbar Ashimbaeva covered the main wall of AUCA’s forum with a silk mural called “Assembly Complex”—AUCA’s newest permanent installation
Rafael and Dilbar told us about work experience and their first cooperative project “Assembly Complex” (2015-2016). The temporary piece was put up with the idea that this year Rafael would develop a more final art work. He decided to collaborate with Kyrgyz fashion designer Dilbar Ashimbaeva in turning AUCA’s its main wall to the silk, topographical map.
